Pre-Surgery Questions

  1. What should I do to prepare for my surgery?
    Your surgeon or surgical team will provide specific instructions tailored to your procedure. You may be instructed to refrain from eating up to 12 hours before the procedure or you may be required to refrain from using lotion, deodorants, or perfumes.
  2. What items should I bring with me on the day of surgery?
    There is a list of different items that you should bring on the day of the procedure.
    • A trusted adult (preferred spouse or other family member)
    • State or Federal issued ID
    • Insurance identification
    • Loose comfortable clothing
    • Hearing aids along with their case
    • If you require the use of contacts or glasses, please wear your glasses on the day of procedure and bring the case.
    • If you use an inhaler, please bring it with you.
  3. Can I eat or drink before my surgery?
    You are required to refrain from eating or drinking anything 12 hours before a procedure. Failing to refrain can affect how your body reacts to different medications utilized during surgery.
  4. How long will my surgery take?
    Surgery times vary depending on the severity of the repair and/or the procedure.
  5. Will I need someone to drive me home after my surgery?
    A trusted adult is required to care for you before and after surgery. They will be required to drive you around until you have been cleared to drive. The time after surgery in which you are allowed to drive varies depending on recovery time, medications, and response to medications.

Post-Surgery Questions

  1. What can I expect during my recovery?
    You can expect soreness and tenderness in the area in which the procedure was located. You may also experience similar symptoms on the surrounding area.
  2. Are there any activities I should avoid after surgery?
    Avoid doing any strenuous activities such as lifting and running. Also, be sure to keep the area of treatment free from excess moisture as this may increase the risk of infections.
  3. How will I manage pain after my surgery?
    If you are experiencing excessive pain, you may be prescribed proper pain medication by an authorized surgeon or medical staff.
  4. When should I schedule a follow-up appointment?
    Your surgeon or the surgical team will provide you with a date for your follow-up appointment before you leave the surgery center. The appointment should be scheduled within 7-14 days post-procedure. If you experience unusual pain, swelling, redness, fever, or any other concerning symptoms, contact our emergency number immediately.
  5. What should I do if I experience complications after surgery?
    Call our emergency contact number provided immediately if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
    • Severe pain that is not relieved by prescribed medications
    • Excessive swelling or redness around the surgical site
    • Unusual or foul-smelling discharge from the wound
    • High Fever (above 101°F)
    • Persistent nausea or vomiting
    • Difficulty breathing or chest pain
    • Sudden changes in vision or mental state
