Before Surgery
Preparing for Your Surgery at Upper Mississippi Surgery Center
Escort and Transportation
On the day of your surgery at Upper Mississippi Surgery Center, it is essential to have an adult accompany you. This person will need to drive you to and from the center. For safety reasons, you cannot be admitted or discharged without a responsible adult present. Post-surgery, you will not be allowed to drive, walk, or use public transportation due to the effects of sedation or anesthesia. Additionally, arrange for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure. If possible, plan for childcare for the day of your surgery.
Pre-Operative Instructions
Our nursing staff will contact you several days before your scheduled surgery to discuss:
- Your arrival time
- A brief medical history
- Specific pre-surgery instructions
If you do not receive a call by the day before your surgery, please contact us between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM at (402) 379-5554.
Important Pre-Surgery Guidelines
- Medications: Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications (e.g., Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, Nuprin) for 1-2 weeks before your surgery unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is safe to use. Consult your doctor if unsure.

- Health Changes: Inform your physician or Upper Mississippi Surgery Center if you develop a fever, sore throat, cough, or any infection.
- Fasting: Do not eat or drink anything, including water, gum, mints, or candy, after midnight the night before your surgery, unless instructed otherwise. Failure to comply may result in delayed or postponed surgery.
